Freyana Irani

Hello. I am an actor, writer and human rights lawyer.

My first acting role was as ‘Mrs Mouse’ in my Kindergarten class play – a role I secured due to my (then) tiny and timid, ‘mouse-like’ voice. Exposure to art, music and drama throughout my life has played a big part in developing my own voice and perspectives of the world around me. Similarly, I believe in ensuring that all children’s voices are heard, and that children are given the tools and platforms to express their thoughts, feelings, opinions and perspectives with respect and individual agency.

I’ve undertaken national inquiries into child rights abuses for UNICEF Australia, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse, the Defence Abuse Response Taskforce, and the Australian Human Rights Commission. I recently led the Australian NGO sector’s reporting to the United Nations on child rights, and conducted a national consultation, travelling to 30 locations around Australia to hear from over 500 children and young people. I have represented Australia at the United Nations in Geneva, and have been interviewed on ABC TV and national radio…

… And I am now a happy, new addition to the beautiful, committed team at KidsXpress.
