Educators who work with students impacted by trauma run the risk of experiencing secondary traumatic stress, also referred to as compassion fatigue or vicarious trauma. Apart from teachers, secondary traumatic stress is also prevalent amongst healthcare professionals, social workers and first responders.
Knowing the signs and symptoms of secondary traumatic stress and identifying positive strategies for self-care is crucial for anyone working with trauma-impacted children.
This 3 hour workshop will provide you with practical strategies to care for yourself and prevent burnout. It will also help you to cultivate a culture of wellbeing in your school and facilitate conversation and change. By looking after yourself, you will be better able to support the children in your care.
