KidsXpress named new Social Impact Partner by Future Generation Australia
We’re thrilled to share that KidsXpress has been named one of Future Generation Australia’s newest Social Impact Partners, joining a select national portfolio of organisations working to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families.
The multi-year partnership will provide operational funding and capacity-building support, enabling KidsXpress to expand its trauma-informed mental health programs for children aged 12 and under — many of whom are experiencing complex adversity and have limited access to therapeutic care.
“We’re deeply honoured to be selected as a Future Generation partner,” said KidsXpress CEO, Margo Ward. “This opportunity allows us to reach more children in more communities — while continuing to build the kind of trauma-informed ecosystems that help children heal, not just cope.”
Why this matters
Future Generation’s announcement comes as the company marks its tenth anniversary and launches a refined giving strategy shaped by new evidence about childhood adversity.
The 2023 Australian Child Maltreatment Study revealed that more than a quarter of young people aged 16–24 had experienced between three and five types of abuse in their childhood. Earlier findings from the Australian Institute of Family Studies showed that more than half of Australian children are exposed to multiple adverse experiences by the age of 11, with profound long-term impacts.
Future Generation is responding by investing in organisations that create positive childhood experiences — supportive relationships and environments that protect children and foster resilience. From 329 applicants, six new social impact partners were chosen, including KidsXpress. Together with five continuing partners, they form a dynamic portfolio with strong potential for growth and systems change.
“I think we all have a responsibility to help kids that have these early adverse events in their life, and the charities that Future Generation is supporting really have that as their core mission. Supporting children facing adversity to thrive will yield both economic and social returns,” said Dr Philip Lowe, Chair of Future Generation Australia.
The KidsXpress difference
Founded in 2005, KidsXpress uses expressive therapy to support children through art, music, play, drama and dance-movement — creative approaches backed by neuroscience and grounded in psychological theory. Our work also equips parents, educators and health professionals to better recognise and respond to signs of trauma, helping to create safer, more supportive environments for children to recover and thrive.
This recognition marks an important milestone for KidsXpress, and we’re deeply grateful to Future Generation Australia, and to all our partners, for believing in the power of early intervention. Together, we can ensure more children feel seen, heard, supported and hopeful — in line with our vision of an Australia where every child can access mental health support when and how they need it.
